In fact as we all know, there’s no place like home.
Throughout the month we’re going to look at how to set up your home environment to enhance your weight loss goals.
Really, your home is your first line of defense against the wicked food choices we’re faced with every day. (Think highly-processed junk food, unhealthy takeout fare, pernicious pizza delivery guys!) Instead of inviting these foods into your home, create a protective barrier to keep them at bay.
What we want to do is create a safe haven.
What does a “safe haven” look like? It looks like a refrigerator with vegetable drawers stuffed full of fresh produce and shelves loaded down with low-fat dairy. It looks like a freezer full of lean meats and bags of frozen fruits and vegetables that make healthy cooking convenient and quick. It looks like a pantry well-stocked with whole grains, heart-healthy oils, and flavor-enhancing herbs and spices.

When there are only good choices to be made, guess what kind of choices you’re going to make? Good ones!
But there are lots of things to consider when cleaning out your cupboards. How will your family react to these changes? Will everybody be on board? Will there be pushback? What if not everyone in the family is trying to lose weight? Will you all eat the same thing? Will you cook separate meals for your little munchkins?!?
We’re going to answer all of those questions and more in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
It may have been enough for Dorothy to dream of a better life over the rainbow, but just dreaming about a healthier life isn’t going to do us any good. We must actually seize control and implement changes that will improve our future if we want to reach the Emerald City … I mean, successful weight loss.
Losing weight is hard, but it gets easier when your home is a safe haven designed to protect you from unhealthy food choices (or the occasional flying monkey). And you’re so damn worth it!
Let’s go get it!
