We’ve come a long way, baby!
Many of you know, I spent a lot of years – 17 in fact – in the role of political spouse. Rob and I are both so grateful for the people we met and the experiences we had along the way. (If you haven’t been to the Ellensburg Rodeo, put it on your bucket list. It’s really a blast!) During his time in public office our entire family went along for the ride – sometimes literally, as in the innumerable parades in which we all walked or rode in a convertible, throwing out candy and waving to voters. They are memories we wouldn’t trade for the world. All those years of standing next to the man who was in the spotlight taught me a thing or two about being in the public eye. Thank goodness, too! Now that my book’s out media requests for interviews are coming in, and it’s time for me to put to use everything I learned watching him. Having cameras and microphones pointed at me is more than a little intimidating, I’m not gonna lie. But if I follow Rob’s lead – generous of spirit, thoughtful in words, and know your stuff! – I’ll be okay. If you’ve been with Rob, my kids and me (read “What every mom knows” linked below for more on what these amazing people mean to me) on this incredible ride then you know … we’ve come a long way, baby! If you and I met more recently, I am so grateful that we found each other. And who knows what adventures the future will bring? Can’t wait to find out! Have a happy, healthy week! – Marilyn
