Are You Spinning Your Wheels?
The momentum you can get from cycling is a good thing.
Or, you may feel like you’re spinning your wheels, trapped in a dieter’s worst nightmare:
Overeat > feel physically sick > skip workout > feel guilty > repeat.
That’s the vicious cycle that keeps many of us from ever realizing our weight loss goals.
I was stuck in that vicious cycle for decades before I committed to changing my eating and exercise habits for the rest of my life. I know how hopeless it can feel to break through. The vicious cycle’s pull is powerful because it’s made up of long-standing, habitual behaviors and deep-rooted emotions.
But there’s an equally powerful, self-reinforcing virtuous cycle that looks like this:
Make good food choices > feel better > choose to exercise > feel empowered > repeat.
If you haven’t yet read this week’s blogs that explore these parallel cycles, check them out. There’s one essential habit I’ve discovered that breaks the vicious cycle and sets you firmly on the virtuous cycle. Don’t miss it!
And talk about virtuous cycles! In this week’s video I reveal how “10-Week, 10-Pound Challenge” participant Audrey spent the month of July pushing outside of her comfort zone to redefine weight loss success. I was so inspired by what she told me in an email I had to share! Way to go Audrey!
If you need your own comfort zone shake up, try the lower body strength-training workout that my trainer designed for us. It can be done in 30 minutes, so you can get it done and get on with your day (with just a little bit of swagger in your walk).
Four weeks to go in “The Challenge.” Let’s keep the momentum going so we stay on that virtuous cycle!
Have a happy, healthy week!
