In the decades that I was obese, food became a quick fix in my stressful life that helped me cope with chronic dissatisfaction and unhappiness. It became an unhealthy substitute for true pleasure and contentment. Now I regularly practice self-care and have found this to be the best antidote to slipping back into my old ways.
