💕 Not-too-sweet Valentines 💕
I get that some people are cynical about Valentine’s Day. Silly cards, inane axioms on conversation hearts, and the pressure to publicly declare sentimentality that many of us prefer to keep private can lead to the Valentine’s Day equivalent of a “Bah humbug!” for some people. Can I just say, I am not one of them. I love Valentine’s Day, as you can see from my holiday-inspired light and hot pink mani-pedi. What I don’t love is all the unhealthy food that’s thrown in our path this time of year. But as I detail in the post below (“Healthy Valentine’s Day gift ideas for your sweetie”) there are plenty of ways to show you care that don’t involve blowing up someone’s diet. Personally, I’m hoping for a coffee date with my hubby which, knowing us, will mean we’re checking our phones in between adoring glances at each other. I’m always scanning Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, because you never know where the next great idea will come from! Speaking of inspiration, here are a few things that I’m reading, pinning and cooking these days!
It Starts with Food (2014), by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig. This is the same couple that wrote The Whole30, the most comprehensive and scientifically sound, whole-foods approach to healthy eating I have ever read. If The Whole30 is the “how,” then It Starts with Food is the “why.” It’s kinda science-y, but not in an off-putting way. The authors use lots of meaningful analogies for science-challenged History majors like me. Fitness videos! Some are just demos, some are a tad longer and include some explanation. This week I showed a favorite shoulder exercise and several fun ways to incorporate a medicine ball into your workout.
Here’s hoping you and your Valentine have a sweet celebration, and that you keep finding ways to eat (and live!) like it matters. Because it really does! Have a happy, healthy week!
