Need a Healthy Living Reboot?
What an exciting – albeit exhausting – week this has been! I’d sit down, but I’m now the proud owner of a Jawbone UP24, a wristband-type fitness device that tracks my steps and keeps me moving. I’m not sure, but I think it zaps you if you’re idle for too long!
(I’m kidding, of course!)
All week I’ve been talking about how to integrate technology into our healthy living goals. There are more apps and wearable devices available than I could review in a lifetime, so I looked at the top-rated ones as well as those recommended by my readers and a few of my personal favorites. Some of them are indispensible, and most of the apps are – are you sitting down?!? – FREE!!!
In the podcast I talk about how I use phone apps and my new device, but I also touch on a couple of shortcomings to all of this technology. The biggest one being that no high-tech gadget can substitute for the internal drive we must have to make our healthy living habits stick.
Speaking of internal drive, I celebrated a big victory over the weekend and completed my first triathlon! Setting non scale-oriented goals is so important in keeping our focus on healthy living rather than just a number on the scale. Numbers fluctuate, but they cannot compete with the feeling of accomplishment when you cross that finish line!
And since we’re talking about finish lines, there’s one looming next weekend: Labor Day weekend is the official end of the “10-Week, 10-Pound Challenge!” If you’ve been participating I hope you’ve found the information helpful and you’re seeing success in building new healthy habits! I’ll also be picking a grand-prize winner from among our participants to win a Kindle Fire HD! Can’t wait to find out who the lucky winner is!
As much as I love summer, maybe it won’t be such a bad thing to slow down a little bit this fall. For now, have a happy, healthy week!
