Guest Blog: personal training with Taryn

First let me say, I am so happy Marilyn asked me to write about fitness for her website. In fact, I’m going to be writing regularly with fitness tips and workout ideas for everyone from beginners to advanced. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let me introduce myself!

trainer-taryn-700x400-2My name is Taryn Langlois. I’ve been a personal trainer for four years, but my training philosophy has been developing and evolving for much longer. Thanks to two older brothers, my competitive spirit was encouraged from an early age. That focus helped me excel in sports, including three years rowing college crew for the University of Washington and now playing USA Ultimate on a nationally ranked team. Doing so, I discovered that my body was capable of much more than I previously believed. I pushed myself to the breaking point and beyond, battled with my weight and the need to be in control. Through these experiences I learned that we all have the capacity to tap into that drive to improve ourselves, but I also respect that we each have our own battles to fight. Until we’re strong enough – mentally and physically – to conquer those battles, we won’t see the progress we desire.

My core philosophy is that, while everyone’s different, most of us can do far more than we think we can. I became a personal trainer because I want to help people realize that. Our self-imposed limits – whether conscious or unconscious – prevent us from reaching our full potential.

You hear Marilyn talking about pushing past comfort zones constantly, and she’s absolutely right. There’s no growth inside that comfort zone, so we’re going to (gently) push past it.

Marilyn and I both know that trying to make big lifestyle changes can feel overwhelming. But my plan for this blog is to keep it simple. I won’t be reporting on the latest, greatest, one-size-fits-all fitness craze; I will help you find your own best way. And while I don’t promise that everything I suggest will be easy, keep in mind that “easy” rarely brings about change.

Now, Marilyn’s a pretty tough cookie as you might guess, but I have clients of all abilities, including several who started out at a very basic fitness level and had a lot of weight to lose. Helping people who’ve never enjoyed exercise find a passion for fitness is one of my job’s greatest perks!

I’ve been training with Marilyn for almost three years now. Our healthy living philosophies are perfectly aligned and I think our collaboration will bring about some great insight into how to create your own transformation. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the team!

To hear more about our workouts together and my training philosophy, listen to the podcast that Marilyn and I recorded together a few weeks ago.
