F is for Frozen Foods

by Marilyn McKenna

frozen letter FFabulous frozen foods fulfill your fit food fantasies!

Try to say that three times fast!

If you haven’t already guessed, today’s ABCs of weight loss are brought to you by the letter …

The plethora of healthy convenience foods that are available in your average grocery store these days is nothing short of miraculous. Nowhere is that more evident than in the frozen foods section.

Whether or not a vegetable is currently in season is almost irrelevant in this day and age.

A trip to my friendly neighborhood Safeway this weekend yielded frozen fruit for my “First-Thing-In-The-Morning-Let’s-Go-Get-It” smoothies this week, as well as these gorgeous Earthbound Farm organic frozen veggies.

Remember our conversation (“Franken-Freezer”) about the RED and YELLOW light foods that you needed to clear out of your freezer? Now that you’ve done that, it’s time to fill it to the brim with the GREEN light foods that we discussed in “Frozen is Fabulous.”

Frozen foods – especially already-prepared, fresh-picked fruits and veggies – can make cooking healthy meals and snacks so much simpler.

I mentioned yesterday how much I love edamame, but didn’t discover this until today: frozen, single-serving microwaveable pouches of shelled edamame. Brilliant!
