DAY 21: WEEK 3 Resource Guide
Welcome to your WEEK 3 Resource Guide!
For me, Sunday is a chance to reflect on the past week and prepare for the week ahead. I do all my grocery shopping and much of my meal prep for the week on Sunday.
During the 28 Days to Overcoming Food Addiction it’s also the day we dig a little deeper into some of the issues we talk about on a daily basis.
Here is a collection of some more articles, podcasts and videos that I’ve found useful.
NPR: “Anatomy of Addiction: How Heroin and Opioids Hijack the Brain.” In this story we follow a young man who overcame his addiction to illicit drugs, but the discussion of the limbic brain and neural dopamine hijacking is fascinating. Makes you thank your lucky stars we’re only addicted to salt, sugar and fat. But the cue-urge-reward-habit pathway is the same as it is with food.
TEDTalk by Lissa Rankin “The Shocking Truth About Your Health” looks at how the body is the tip of the health iceberg. What does your body need to get healthy? Your body is ripe for a miracle of healing, but Dr. Rankin says it’s not coming from a doctor’s prescription. Great talk!
Dr. Axe “How to Cure Your Sugar Addiction Naturally”.
I love his simple, straightforward medical and health tips, and this one on overcoming sugar cravings is great.
“How Mindfulness Makes the Brain Immune To Temptation,” in Psychology Today, by Kelly McGonigal, PhD.
In this article Dr. McGonigal talks about applying mindfulness – those higher-level thinking skills we’ve been talking about – into situations rife with temptation.
